(That's got to be the laziest match report ever)
After a solid warm-up from the boys, the first half was underway and, although there were a few half chances, the breakthrough finally came through Toby Mills . Well, allegedly.
Castle won a free kick on the left side of the pitch, 25 yards out, and for some reason Jake Edwards told Toby to go and take it. Toby looked back at him and asked if he was sure. The referee blew his whistle and Toby whipped it in and what looked like a free kick that just went past everybody into the bottom corner is now in need of further review, with Mark Griffiths claiming he got a touch. But maybe we could get a Griff goal later in the game for certain!
Other than a few horrendous tackles on Sammy Sam Jones , which happens ten times every game, there wasn’t much of note for Castle in the first half.
The half-time message from the gaffers was really positive for the boys. Stiffler just wanted a bit more confidence on the ball and for the boys to keep a clean sheet.
48th minute: Goal for Knighton.
After the Knighton player absolutely spooned one out of play, the Castle boys were turning and getting ready for a goal kick, only to then see the referee point for a corner. No shock, they then scored from it.
Luckily, straight from kick-off, the lads finally listened to the gaffer and didn’t hoof it long. Instead, they played a bit of football and, at the end of a great move, Castle had the lead back courtesy of Dylan Powell with an outrageous volley that the keeper had no chance with.
Castle then had to ride a wave of pressure, but unfortunately Knighton found another equaliser after two Castle lads decided to start hugging each other in the middle of the box. 2-2.
As the game kept going on, you just wondered if Castle could get that deserved winning goal.
Sammy Jones then wins the ball, completely does the defender, is fouled and wins a penalty.
Mark Griffiths steps up and you’d put everything you own on him scoring this one! Up he stepped and… wow, wow, wow. He blazed it over the top left. There must have been a problem with the penalty spot.
Knighton’s number 7 found this extra amusing as he stood and laughed at the Castle bench. We’ll see if he had the last laugh.
If anyone has since found the ball that Griff blazed over, please contact Knighton Town FC. Thank you.
When a player misses a penalty and a few decisions go against you, you might just think it’s not going to be your day.
But then the gaffer brought his little magician on after convincing him to play.
George Ellis enters play and, with just his second touch of the season, grabs the winner.
Sammy Jones broke down the right wing and put in an absolute peach of a ball, which fell to George on the volley. He hit it into the bottom right.
The ground absolutely erupted. George couldn’t believe it himself and just slowly walked back to the halfway line before realising he’d scored!
Castle then had to pull their socks up and defend to get the game over the line. After getting to stoppage time, the ball fell for Martyn Ziemann , who played a nice one-two with the goalkeeper before dinking it in from 30 yards out with the final kick of the game.
Knighton 2-4 Castle.
