Bright Start For Castle, But Forden Come Back To Win.
In the opening game of the season, on a pitch that looked rougher than Katie Price with a hangover (disclaimer, this is a joke and not meant to offend), Bishops Castle travelled to Forden in the opening game of the season.
The mood was buoyant before KO and the lads knew that they were in for a tough game. The Forden boys always give us a tough game and today was no different.
Castle started quickly and flew out of the metaphorical box like a team possessed. Young Tom Edwards particularly started brightly. The Forden central defenders didn't know what to do as young Edwards left them quaking in their boots (disclaimer, this is a joke and not meant to offend they weren't quaking in their boots) until he unleashed a left footed strike (you read that correctly, he actually shot with his left) that was blocked into the path of Tony Mills, who, for probably the first time in recent memory, actually showed composure in front of goal. The keeper brilliantly saved but couldn't hold on and Edwards followed in to put the visors 1-0 up.
Castle were on top and flying for the first 25 minutes of the game but just couldn't find the second goal.
Forden, being the class team that they are (disclaimer this is a joke and not meant to offend) started to get themselves into the game and used the slope to their advantage attacked on their left hand side with a run into the box. The attacker cut inside and Aidan Oakley thought it best to absolutely wallop him and bring him down. Penalty. For once, absolutely no argument from the away side. Penalty converted 1-1.
Halftime was a chance to reflect on the bright start Castle made and the fact that the hardest half of the game was over. The fact the lads were now playing downhill with the wind for the second half should have made it easier…….
Couldn't have been more wrong!
Forden started the better and went 2-1 up after 55 minutes. The Castle boys, Forden and literally everyone watching thought Sam Jones was fouled in the build up to the goal. The referee didn't agree and allowed the play to continue. Forden broke and scored. Sucker punch for the Castle.
The real star for the second half however was Alex Jones. Wearing brand new boots he scored a header so deadly the keeper had no chance…… The keeper however was his own and Joe McKay had absolutely no chance in getting a hand to it. Proper own goals and gaffs VHS material.
If the game was actually decided by carving out clear cut chances Castle would have won 10-3. Ollie Davies, Toby Mills, Sam Jones, Tom Edwards, Mark Griffiths, Josh Collins would have been on the score sheet if that was the case. Josh and Ollie were picknof the bunch where it was harder to miss than score! 🤣🤣
Castle piled on the pressure for the last 20 minutes but just couldn't score.
